Tar Heel Women Will Send Seven Swimmers To NCAA Championships
Freshman Carly Smith has a fifth-place seed going into the 2010 NCAA meet. March 4, 2010 CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Seven University of North Carolina women swimmers have qualified for the 2010 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in West Lafayette, Indiana scheduled for March 18-20. Juniors Katura Harvey and Rebecca Kane, sophomores Layne Brodie, Sarah Tanner and Laura Moriarty, and freshmen Carly Smith and Katie Nolan all qualified for the championship meet. Both the 200-yard and 400-yard medley relays qualified with their times of 1:38.17 and 3:35.79, respectively. The 200-yard medley relay is seeded eighth. Carly Smith qualified in the 100-yard butterfly (53.82), 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke. Smith is seeded fifth in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:53.14 and 11th in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 52.71. Laura Moriarty also has two Top 16 seeds, including ninth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.94 and 10th in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:07.66. Moriarty also qualified in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.93. Katura Harvey will compete in the 200 freestyle (1:47.27), 500 freestyle (4:43.53) and 1650 freestyle (16:19.02). Rebecca Kane will swim the sprint freestyle events including the 50 (22.41), 100 (49.22) and the 200-yard freestyles (1:48.17). Kane is seeded 16th in the 50 free. Layne Brodie qualified in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.53), 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.59) and the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.77). Katie Nolan and Sarah Tanner both qualified in the 100-yard butterfly with times of 52.93 and 53.90, respectively. BTW she anchors both relays.............

Thanks. They missed her taper at ACC's and she was sick on top of it so those results while good were not what she was looking for. She's feeling better now and hopefully will have fun and swim fast at Purdue.

Yeah, me too. The bar is always set so high. First night split 21.9 anchoring the 2 medley. She was running down the Virginia girl who went 22.3 More than once person commented that if she had 10 more yards of pool she would have had her. Don't see that too often. Got the crowd going for sure. That relay can score at NCAA's. Our breaststroker was about .50 off and the other 3 have a little more juice. Love to see it. If she's on top 8 is possible in the 50 and her 100 can be top 16. Love for her to do it.
